A Classic Ballroom Wedding With a Sweet Ode to Family
Julia and Drew’s Big Day fully embodied the elegance of a classic romance and shared love of family. Having both recently lost their mothers to cancer, the darling couple each brought a tribute to Mom down the aisle and honored them in special ways throughout the day. Decorated in light florals and timeless touches, the college sweethearts drew inspiration from their favorite places and people for an affair to remember.
The Bride and Groom
When it came time to tie the knot, college sweethearts Julia and Drew knew both their family love and college pride would need a special place in their Big Day. The University of Richmond alums found just the right touches to honor both their love story and loved ones on their wedding day.
A Stately Space
Julia and Drew spent their Big Day at Willow Oaks Country Club, an elegant venue full of traditional Southern style in Richmond, Virginia.
Timeless Navy Invitations
Traditional florals paired with pattern made their first appearance on the couple’s invitations and offered a nod to the color and design of the Big Day ahead.
Something Blue Hidden In Her Shoes
Julia walked down the aisle in beautifully beaded flats, sneaking in her “something blue” in their soles.
Classic Bridal Style
The bride beamed in a beautiful strapless gown with a touch of ruching in the front and ruffles in the back.
Holding Her Mother Close
Julia tied a locket belonging to her late mother to her bouquet, holding it close as she walked down the aisle.
Next to His Heart
Drew was presented with a locket with a photo of his late mother, which he proudly pinned to the inside of his suit.
Looking Nice in Navy
The wedding party looked the part in navy strapless dresses and gray suits that offered the perfect contrast to the couple’s classic ensembles.
Too Cute in Tulle
Two adorable flower girls graced the aisle in floor-length white dresses a fairytale-like flowers placed perfectly in their hair.
Ceremony Centered Around Family
The two said, “I do” outdoors in a ceremony centered around family. In lieu of readings, they incorporated a touching account from Drew’s grandmother on her more than 70 years of marriage.
A Triumphant Tasting
In traditional Southern fashion, the two buried a bottle of bourbon in hopes of dodging rain on the wedding day. To celebrate its success, the two dug up the bottle and daringly grabbed a gulp.
A Touching Tribute
Guests were greeted to the reception by a touching memorial table featuring both parents’ wedding photos.
Navy, ivory, and blush tones continued into the reception, where the formal ballroom offered the perfect backdrop for a celebratory seated meal.
A Punch of Pattern
Bold patterned linens on accent tables added a playful twist to the traditional setting.
Colorful Collegiate Centerpiece
The University of Richmond alums adorned each reception table with a handmade watercolor painting of their favorite college buildings.
Sealed the Deal with Sugar
A deliciously decorated donut wall treated guests to a taste of one of the couple’s favorite local donut shops for a sweet ending to the day.
