It really makes the diamond pop.
Size isn't everything, but for some, having an eye-grabbing sparkler is oh-so-spectacular. So what band makes your rock look bigger? According to a recent article on Brides.com, "How to Make an Engagement Ring Look Bigger: 14 Expert Tips," it's platinum.
"The pure white metal of a platinum setting will act as a mirror to reflect the diamond's colorlessness for maximum brilliance and shine. This creates the optical illusion of a bigger stone," says Michelle Adorjan, style director of Tacori Jewelry in the piece. "It's the same reason that interior designers add a wall of mirrors into a small room — to make it look larger."

Another surprising tip? They may not be entirely traditional but engagement rings with sapphires, emeralds, or other gems as the main stone may appear larger than diamonds. "Colored gems pop and appear larger than a traditional diamond. Opt for pale hues of pink, yellow, green or blue that will trick the eye and appear larger than life," says the article's author, Kristi Kellogg.
Right now, colored gemstones are seriously trending. Earlier this year, we repoted of the craze, "just like the growing love for rose gold, colored gemstones are slowly starting to pop up as a way to switch up your classic engagement ring. Whether as the main stone or the flanking accents, these pops of color in the form of sapphires, emeralds, or yellow diamonds give a classy, yet unique touch."
Last but not least, here's one surefire way to dazzle with your engagement ring, regardless of the size: Clean it, ladies!
