Personal Southern Touches Take This Texas Wedding Over the Top
The Bride and The Groom
Avery and Kyle met as English majors at Vanderbilt, where their shared love of literature and art blossomed after a fateful spring break trip. The college sweethearts infused their Big Day with meaning, sharing pieces of their love story and interests in unique details every step of the way.
The couple invited guests with classic black calligraphy that kept the cheerful color of their wedding design under wraps until the Big Day.
Avery beamed in a classic bridal cut that wowed with a bigger-than-life bow in the back.
Led to Kyle’s proposal by a path of peonies, Avery’s favorite flower became even more special when she said “yes.” She elevated the beauty of this significant bloom by crafting a unique bouquet trail of bright peonies, orchids, and roses for her bridal look.
Texas-Sized Bridal Party
Everything is bigger in Texas, including the bridal party. Fourteen ladies wearing shades of blush and beige and twelve gents looking dapper in tuxedoes stood by Avery and Kyle.
Married Beneath a Majestic Oak
Barr Mansion’s wide open spaces are centered around a sprawling oak tree where Avery and Kyle said “I do.” The two designed a ceremony with personal touches at the forefront. From Avery’s violin teacher of 5 years serenading the ceremony with “Can’t Help Falling in Love” to handpicked readings, they filled each moment with meaning.
A Poetic Tribute to Their Past
Avery and Kyle chose a close friend to do a reading from The Velveteen Rabbit as a nod to a metamorphosis class they took together in college. They also incorporated other meaningful books into their Big Day, like the book Avery fell in love with during that first class together, Alice in Wonderland.
With the help of Westbank Flower Market, Avery created magic on the branches above their ceremony, incorporating vibrant flower garlands full of peonies, orchids, roses and more.
A Rustic Southern Estate
Barr Mansion played backdrop to the couple’s big day. Not only was the property full full of Southern charm, but it also offered more modern settings that played the perfect canvas for Avery’s floral vision. Here, guests were greeted by a spectacular floral installation on their way into the reception hall.
Texas Beer Bar
Guests sampled of some of Texas’s best beers at a hand-selected beer bar after the ceremony.
Bright Touches and Metallic Tones
The mingling of modern and rustic touches continued into dinner. Wooden reception tables were garnished with lively florals and greenery while gold silverware framed each place setting.
Frozen Floral Masterpieces
Avery grew up surrounded by art and artists, so it was only natural for her to find floral inspiration in Japanese botanical sculptor Makoto Azuma. His stunning ice sculptures encasing armfuls of flowers were the muse behind the frozen floral masterpieces featured at the couple’s reception.
Lively Blooms and Buttercream
Flowing, vivid florals brought squared tiers of buttercream to life on the couple's wedding cake.
Guest Experiences Throughout the Estate
Avery and Kyle dotted the sprawling Barr Mansion property with exciting guest experiences, including everything from a local Austin psychic and a cigar roller to an airstream photo booth trailer. The couple compiled copies of the snapshots from the booth into a guest book full of signatures and memories.
Personal Poems on Old-Fashioned Type Writers
Since both Avery and Kyle were English majors in college, the two treated guests to custom poetry to-go, hand typed by the poets at Type Writer Rodeo.
Classic Late Night Snack
Guests taking a break from the dance floor were treated to the ultimate evening sweet – milk and cookies.
The newlyweds walked away from their perfect day surrounded by sparklers and smiles.
