This Dallas Garden Features 90,000 Pumpkins Each Fall
In the South, the start of fall is signaled by a subtle chill in the air, hot coffee on the porch, and an abundance of pumpkins. And we mean an abundance—90,000 pumpkins to be exact. If you want all of your pumpkin dreams to come true, then you have to visit this lively seasonal village in Dallas.
Everything's bigger in Texas, even the pumpkin displays. Autumn at the Arboretum is a cherished fall destination that Dallas natives flock to every year. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is celebrating their 14th year of the highly-visited fall festival that draws an average of 980,000 visitors a season.
The pumpkin village is made up of a variety of 48 types of pumpkins, gourds, and squash that form tall round houses and well-constructed sculptures. With 90,000 pumpkins, it could be easy to get disorganized, but the Dallas Arboretum display is a true feat of architecture. These autumnal vegetables are thoughtfully displayed in color-coordinated towers and meticulously manicured patches.
In addition to the array of pumpkins, a familiar fall theme marks the pumpkin village: It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The whole Charlie Brown crew—Linus, Sally, and Charlie Brown—are sculpted in the form of detailed marigold topiaries standing at 15 feet tall. Guests will be able to visit the Peanuts Gang School House and the iconic brick wall. Kids often flock to Snoopy's doghouse and the winding hay bale maze. The photo opportunities are endless, so get ready to snap a picture with the beloved characters.
Although pumpkins often get all the attention during the fall season, the arboretum's vibrant seasonal blooms serve as a breathtaking backdrop. Over 150,000 gorgeous fall flowers delicately accent the village and snake through the displays.
One might wonder how this complex village comes to life—well, it certainly takes a village. Within a span of 21 days, 48 workers decorate the space in preparation for the autumn season. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens throws many seasonal events in conjunction with the festival, such as ‘The Great Pumpkin' Fridays, Trick or Treating at Night in Children's Garden, and Tricks & Treats Thursdays Scavenger Hunt.
