Executive Editor Rachel Hardage Barrett takes on the red carpet at the 2013 CMT Music Awards to talk with a few of our favorite Southern stars.

[MUSIC] Hey y'all this Rachel Hardage Barrett, I'm with Southern Living magazine and we're here in Nashville, the CMT awards. Let's go check out the red carpet. [MUSIC] Southern Living! What's up Southern Living. What's your favorite thing about living in the south? [MUSIC] People are kinder. It's almost like a different country. It's so different than New York City and the pace is different. Everyone is friendly out here. Uh-huh. Very friendly. And we get to see all the seasons change down here and, and it's, there's just nothing better than the southern way of life. The accent. People up north are like woo, I love your accent. I'm like, I don't have an accent, you have an accent. Right. Southern hospitality's great and the food's amazing too. Uh-huh. The food. The food. You've got a lot of the fried okra the sweat tea and country cookin'. Sweat tea. Sweat tea. Chicken and dumplings and macaroni and cheese. Pork ribs. Collard greens Woo, I love some fried chicken. I love hot wings. I love my moms fried chicken. Like that's the best, like nobody makes it like her. Mashed potatoes and gravy. [LAUGH] Fried chicken. Not for dessert. Peach cobbler, with like, ice cream on it. Where the, where the cobbler's super hot and the ice cream's cold. My favorite Southern snack is usually peanut butter and jelly with a big tall ice cold glass of root beer. Uh-huh, nice. If you really wanna get crazy with it, throw on a little Swiss cheese on top of that. On peanut butter and jelly? Peanut butter and jelly and Swiss cheese. What's your favorite thing about summer in the South? Oh gosh, summer in the South. Definitely Fourth of July. You know, the fireworks, the red white and blue pops, anything, I'm like, the very patriotic. Fire flies at night, honestly. My favorite thing about summer is the lakes and rivers. It gets so hot that you gotta be in the water. And, I grew up on a lake, so I'd rather be in the water than anywhere else in the summer. Going down the river, on a boat. Favorite thing about the summer in the south? Probably air conditioning. Air conditioning. All the outdoor barbeques and hanging out with family. Best part yeah. Here's a tough one. What's the most Southern thing you've ever done? The most Southern? I don't know if I can tell you or not. Everything I do is Southern even, no matter where I'm at. Drink moonshine? Probably the most Southern thing I ever done. Drink moonshine a lot. Takin a bottle of coke. [MUSIC] And pouring salty peanuts in it. I played banjo at a nurses' convention, opening for an Elvis impersonator in Jackson, Mississippi. That was pretty Southern. I cooked a squirrel last summer. Oh, I used to help my dad take care of getting the heads off chickens. I shot a beer can and a guy with a slingshot one time. [MUSIC] [LAUGH] I jumped in the ocean naked. Please don't air that. Love you Southern Living. Bye-bye now. [MUSIC]
