If there’s anything we realize as we grow older, it’s that our mothers deserve some major praise for raising us and our siblings to be functioning members of society—and ones with good table manners to boot. While a nicely handwritten note or freshly baked pie would do the trick, we’re thinking bigger this year. Grab your mama, and pack up your pearls because it’s time to go on a girls’ weekend. We’ve rounded up 11 mother-daughter trip ideas to take in 2019 that’ll definitely secure your place as “favorite child” for a while. (Though, as any good mama, she won’t say it.) Whether walking along cobblestone streets or lounging on a breezy beach, listening to country music in an authentic honkytonk or filling your bellies with Cajun cuisine, you and your mama are guaranteed to have a grand time. These mother-daughter getaways have you covered all year long.

Walland, Tennessee

For a nature-filled farm getaway

Visit one of our favorite Southern spots, Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee, for an authentic farm escape with a few luxurious twists. Hidden in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains about three hours east of Nashville, this 4,200-acre resort and working farm knows a thing or two about good ‘ole Southern hospitality. The charming family bed-and-breakfast comes complete with incredible farm-to-table cuisine and classic outdoor pursuits like horseback riding.

Barboursville, Virginia

For a wine lovers’ getaway

Get your fill of history and rosé at this Jeffersonian hotspot. Here, the former President designed an 1800s mansion for Virginia Governor James Barbour—for whom the town is named—which later became a winery and inn. (See where we’re going with this?) If you and your mama are oenophiles, live and learn for the weekend at Barboursville Vineyards, the plantation mentioned above. Choose between a number of suites housed in historic homes across the plantation, and let the wine and dining flow from there.

Charleston, South Carolina

For a charming city getaway

Feel every ounce of Southern charm and “big city” glamour with your mama when visiting the cobblestone streets, historic homes, and epic food scene of Charleston. For something with a mid-century modern feel as well as the best-looking bar in the city, book a room at The Dewberry. Then, peek into the gardens through the wrought iron gates lining the sidewalks south of Broad Street, and pause to look at the window boxes on Rainbow Row. Possibilities are endless.

New Orleans, Louisiana

For a fun foodie getaway

Southerners love to eat, and eat you will in New Orleans, also known as our South’s Best Food City 2018. Red beans and rice, étouffée, gumbo—New Orleans’ signature dishes only get better the longer they simmer. The same is true for the city and its food scene, which celebrated its 300th anniversary this past year. Eating or drinking here is never ordinary, no matter where or when you do it, but it’ll be extraordinary with your mother by your side. Just don’t forget to hit Café Du Monde for beignets!

For a floral-filled spring getaway

Each spring, this history-heavy city plays host to a beautiful celebration complete with floral fireworks. Grab your mama and head to see the cherry blossoms lining Washington DC’s Tidal Basin burst into color. The peak bloom occurs sometime around the last week of March through the first week of April, so get those tickets booked and catch some historic sites while you’re there.

For a country music lover's getaway

Just the look on your mama’s face as she steps into her first honkytonk will be worth the entire weekend. This town is a live music mecca, ensuring you’ll get your fill of boot-stomping, fiddle-playing entertainment. During the day, hit the charming Nashville Farmers’ Market, historic Bluebird Café, and stately Parthenon. Don’t forget to visit beloved local spot, the Loveless Motel and Café, for some of the best scratch biscuits and crispiest fried chicken in Tennessee.

Not only are you and your mother stocked with stunning mountain views and activities, but there’s plenty to do in the walkable downtown of Boone, as well. Home to Appalachian State University, this town isn’t shy about its appreciation of all things Appalachia.

Natchitoches, Louisiana

For a Steel Magnolias-inspired getaway

If your mother loves Steel Magnolias as much as we do, take her to this small Louisiana town, preferably during the holidays when it’s totally dripping with Christmas cheer. The Steel Magnolia House Bed and Breakfast is located in an historic home at 320 Jefferson Street in Natchitoches, Louisiana, just a stone’s throw from the Cane River, and the name isn’t a coincidence. Many scenes from the ever-loved 1989 movie were filmed there. In between visiting these famed cinematic spots, grab a meat pie and enjoy the river breeze.

Dahlonega, Georgia

For a magical Christmas getaway

Catching this place during Christmastime is something special. Draped in twinkling lights and complete with rambling horse-drawn carriages, this North Georgia town has become somewhat of a holiday treasure. The day after Thanksgiving, Dahlonega’s Old Fashioned Christmas kicks off the town’s month-long celebration, featuring everything from a hometown parade to a charming tree lighting. We have a feeling that any Southern mama would appreciate this unapologetic display of Christmas love at the end of 2019.
