Ever wonder what 100 Proof means? Morgan Murphy, author of Southern Living Bourbon & Bacon gives readers a shot of bourbon knowledge.
[Music] Proof is simply an expression of the alcohol content doubled. Hundred proof came from the day when the best bourbon you could buy was fifty percent alcohol. So they just doubled that figure to a hundred and that was a hundred proof. So today when you see that something is, say, 180 proof. That just means it's 90% alcohol by volume. [MUSIC]
