According to a new study—and to all of us—the South is home to the best cities in the U.S. for experiencing art. These cities are havens for art lovers, as they have museums, galleries, and public art galore. Best of all, that art is accessible to visitors and locals alike.

This study comes to us from Apartmentguide, which found the best "art cities based on businesses per population." The ranking counts the number of "art-related businesses per resident" in cities across the country. When all was said and done, Charleston, South Carolina, came out on top, at 1 art business per every 1,775 residents. Miami, Florida, follows in the number two spot with 1 art business per every 1,868 residents. Other Southern cities making the list include Fort Lauderdale, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Savannah, Georgia; and Richmond, Virginia—and that's just cities in the top ten!

As for their methodology, Apartmentguide explains, "We took cities with populations more than 100,000 according to the U.S. Census Bureau and used 8 million commercially available business listings to add up the art-related businesses in each city in the following categories–art galleries, museums, fine arts, art organizations and schools, art centers and art supplies. We then divided each city's population by this total to determine a ratio of the number of businesses for each resident."

In fact, Southern cities claimed six spots in the ranking of top ten best art cities. (No surprise there.) The full list can be found below.
