But for the small town of Montevallo, Alabama, spring is already in full swing. Just 50 minutes south of Birmingham, the area hosts a vibrant U-pick tulip festival that Alabamians look forward to every year. American Village's Festival of Tulips offers flower-lovers a chance to welcome spring with more than 100,000 tulips, including 48 different varieties of the flower. Courtesy of American Village The tulips come in an array of colors from a mellow yellow and bright orange to deep purple and blush pink. The Purple Lady, a deep mauve purple tulip, and Pillow Talk, a tie dye pink flower, are some of the most popular on site. There's no better way to break out of the winter blues than by picking up a bounty of cheerful tulips. Some get dressed up in their Sunday best to take annual Easter pictures in the tulip field, while others come from near and far away to catch a glimpse of tulips in bloom. Courtesy of American Village The fourth annual festival kicked off on February 22 and lasts through March 21, but don't hesitate to go see the colorful tulips in person while they are in peak bloom. American Village is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Once you're done picking, there's more to see on this 188-acre property. Stay awhile and explore American Village, where you can discover the historical sights of Colonial Chapel, Randall Museum, and the National Veterans Shrine.
