They're part of a campaign to stop drunk driving.
With Super Bowl LI and all the revelry that goes with it just over a week away, Tostitos is chipping in to help end drunk driving.
To do this, Tostitos created the “Party Safe” bag: a bag of Tostitos chips featuring an alcohol sensor that acts as a reminder for people to not drink and drive after the game day party. Simply blow in the bag and watch as a symbol appears on the front of the bag. If you’re OK to drive, a green circle will appear, and if any alcohol is present in your breath, a red steering wheel with the message “Don’t drink and drive” will begin to flash along with an Uber code to get you home safe.
Even if you’re not lucky enough to get your hands on one of the limited-edition bags, Tostitos has partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to offer party-goers $10 off an Uber ride on Sunday, February 5 by using the barcode on the back of nearly every bag of Tostitos chips. This offer will be limited to the first 25,000 users who enter the code.
“Our goal is to remove 25,000 cars from the roads that Sunday evening,” Jennifer Saenz, Frito-Lay chief marketing officer, said in a statement. “Whether watching the big game at a friend’s house or at a local bar, a safe ride home is just a few, easy taps away."
Tostitos partnered with MADD to raise awareness around this issue and to remind party-goers to have fun, but to plan ahead for a non-drinking designated driver to get home safely, the brand announced in a press release. In 2015, 45 people were killed in drunk driving crashes, representing nearly half (46%) of all traffic fatalities on the day of the Big Game, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Fans can visit their local retailer to purchase a bag of Tostitos and take part in the getting home safe initiative with Tostitos and MADD. The promotional code for $10 off an Uber ride will be available only on the day of the Big Game, in the continental U.S. and Hawaii while supplies and quantities last.
