Designers Reimagined the Golden Girls House for 2018, and We’re Ready to Move In
The Living Room
Modsy’s modern rendition of the Golden Girls house seeks to stay true to the character of the original space, as seen in the inclusion of rattan furniture, vibrant florals, palm leaves, and more quintessential Florida design choices. In the living room, dusty pink walls (Modsy used Benjamin Moore’s Pale Petal) brighten up the room, and rattan furniture with modern silhouettes give a tried-and-true style a new feel.
“We really wanted this space to feel lived in and to represent all the good times the Golden Girls spent around the table,” says Modsy Director of Style Alessandra Wood.
The Modsy team left the cabinets and kitchen layout as they were in the show, thinking four elderly ladies likely wouldn’t tackle a full renovation, and incorporated new touches such as a woven storage cabinet (To buy: Caledonia Woven Bar Cabinet, $3,998; serenaandlily.com) and a subtle leaf-print wallpaper. The pastel Smeg fridge (home to the famous cheesecake) brings more greenery into the space.
Modsy kept many of the foundational elements of Blanche’s bedroom intact, including her tendency to use exotic prints and fabrics. (Note the palm-print wallpaper.) Even the color scheme is similar, though the design team updated the shades of pink to be closer to the ever-popular Millennial Pink.
“Our absolute favorite piece in the room is the bed,” Wood says. The bed is certainly the most eye-catching piece in the room—it’s the Carved Front Bed from Anthropologie (To buy: $1,800; anthropologie.com).
