The Crown Released its First Look at the New Prince Philip
As The Crown gears up for Seasons 3 and 4 with an entirely new cast, we've been anxiously looking for a glimpse of what's to come. We've already seen the first photos of Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II. And now we have our first look at Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip in the upcoming season.
A tweet from the series' official Twitter account posted today, August 28th, showed Menzies in character as the queen's husband, gazing out the window of Buckingham Palace. In the picture, the Duke of Edinburgh is clad in royal regalia, and the photo's caption simply reads "Ambition."
Season 3 of The Crown will follow the royal family in the 1970s, so that means we should meet the future Camilla Parker-Bowles and watch Princess Margaret's marriage crumble. People.com reports that filming began in July, and we can expect to stream the series sometime in 2019.
Menzies, whom you might recognize from Outlander and Game of Thrones, was announced as the new Prince Philip back in March. Matt Smith preceded him in the role, and based on the newly released photos, Menzies was the right choice to succeed Smith.
Take a look at the new Prince Philip below.
With our first look at Menzies, we've now seen four of the new cast members in character. The Crown‘s Twitter account previously shared pictures of Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Ben Daniels as her husband Antony Armstrong-Jones, and, of course, Colman as the queen. (We've got our fingers crossed for a promo featuring the royal corgis, though.)
We can't wait for Seasons 3 and 4 to get here.
