There is a lot we know about the Royal Family. Where Kate Middleton likes to shop and what color nail polish the Queen likes best are just a couple of the biggest Royal mysteries we've solved. But there has been an even bigger question this entire time—the case of Prince Harry's real name.

Born third in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles, and his brother, Prince William, the 32-year-old Royal has spent his whole life in the spotlight, with public interest only increasing following the death of his mother, Princess Diana, when he was 12. He has made headlines more recently for opening up about mental health and his struggles after his losing his mom, as well as for his relationship with Suits actress Meghan Markle. But as it turns out, we've been referring to him by his nickname, largely unknowingly, this whole time.

Born Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry's official title is actually His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales, with no "Harry" anywhere to be found. However, the use of Harry as a nickname for Henry has a royal history of its own.

The name Henry has long been popular with royals. Stemming from the German name "Heinrich," meaning "home ruler," the name belonged to seven German kings before being adopted by the French and later the English, where it belonged to a total of 12 kings. As it was carried across cultures, the spelling and pronunciation evolved into both Henri and Henry, with the latter being substituted with Harry during the Middle Ages.

Since then, the name has had some staying power. Though neither Henry nor Harry cracked the top 10 for most popular baby names in the U.S. this year, Henry did make the cut for top 30, at number 27.

If the discovery of Prince Harry's real first name wasn't enough to blow your mind, you may be surprised to know that Meghan isn't actually the first name of his girlfriend Meghan Markle either. According to IMDb, the 35-year-old actress goes by her middle name. She was born Rachel Meghan Markle, sharing a first name with her Suits character, Rachel Zane.
