Home Town's Ben Napier Surprises Wife Erin with a Crib He Built for Baby Helen
Get ready for Ben Napier to melt your heart.
The star of HGTV's Home Town is known for building custom furniture pieces for his and wife Erin's Mississippi-based business. But after his wife surprised him last Mother's Day with the news that she was pregnant with their first child (daughter Helen, who was born in January), Ben started plotting a surprise gift of his own.
"I'm going to one-up her and surprise her with a baby crib," he reveals in Monday night's episode. Made from quarter-sewn white oak — "Nothing but the best for my baby," he says — the new dad was careful to include all the necessary safety details along with design elements that pay homage to the couple's Craftsman-style home.
"It's kind of a big moment for me. It's a big milestone to be able to build this for my first-born child," he says, also noting that he hopes Helen passes it along to her baby someday.
The sentiment gets even sweeter, though, when he finally shows Erin the finished piece for the first time.
"It's the most beautiful thing you ever made," she says, teary eyed. "It's so perfect. Everything about it is perfect."
"I think so, too," he adds.
Although they have the most meaningful part of Helen's room completed, the space was still coming together when their newest addition to the family arrived.
"We're still working on it," Erin told PEOPLE in February of the nursery. "She doesn't need a room yet, it's upstairs and she can't be alone. So we're just taking our time with it."
They've since finalized a few more details, with Erin taking to Instagram to say it was "almost finished," and showing off a floral-themed display.
"I had to give her a (super safe plexiglass with frames that lock onto the wall) gallery wall to go with the gorgeous surprise piece her daddy @scotsman.co built for her," she said.
