Every Oreo Flavor We Could Get Our Hands on, Taste-Tested and Ranked
We tested 17 different varieties in honor of National Oreo Day.
If there's one appropriate way to celebrate National Oreo Day, it's by eating as many Oreos as humanly possible—revisiting the classic flavors, from Golden to Double Stuf, and trying the new varieties, too. So, our team at Food & Wine took it upon ourselves to have an Oreo taste test in honor of the cream-filled sandwich cookie’s 106th birthday.
We scored 17 currently available flavors of Oreos, or as many as we could get our hands on (because it would literally be impossible to obtain every wacky flavor ever made), including Oreo Thins and the new Oreo Thins Bites. From childhood favorites like Double Stuf to surprising renditions like Peanut Butter Creme, we experienced sugar high upon sugar high and really could have used a glass of milk.
Side note: Just to cover all our bases, we also tried the new Oreo Chocolate Candy Bars, which are being given away for free all day today. We preferred the original cookies ‘n cream flavor to the mint one.
WATCH: We're Totally Confused By the Newest Oreo Flavor
Here are all of the Oreo flavors we tasted, ranked from least favorite to I-could-eat-a-whole-box.
“Marshmallow taste is just like Lucky Charms, but the size of the cookie means you are getting WAY too much of that flavor.”
“Cute Easter concept.”
“These are like Dunkaroos, so nostalgia makes me like them?”
“Definite coconut flavor – wish coconut taste was stronger.”
15. Red Velvet
“These taste like regular Oreos that are slightly off.”
“Definitely has a red velvet flavor but the cream is off-putting.”
14. Birthday Cake
“I think a young kid would love these.”
“Super sugary. Filling tastes like a delicious bite of OG funfetti cake.”
“Way too sweet, but so is eating funfetti frosting right out of the jar. I’d say this replicates that experience pretty well.”
“Definitely close to funfetti cake.”
“I have always liked these.”
“This is nice, safe. Like that guy from high school who you never dated but probably should have and you wouldn’t have ended up such a bitter, disaffected single adult!”
11. Thins: Golden
“Like a more aggressive Vienna Finger.”
“Bland but nice warm vanilla aftertaste.”
“Right amount of sweetness.”
“Reminds me of a buckeye.”
“Love these! Reminds me of Tagalongs, which are one of my fave Girl Scout Cookies.”
“They should also put jelly in this.”
“Just the way lemon flavor should taste.”
“If you’re a lemon person, you will want to devour this whole box. Into it.”
“What am I missing? It’s just a regular Oreo, dyed yellow?”
“Prefer white filling.”
“Really like these. Would be great on top of ice cream.”
“Do they make them this small so you don’t feel guilty eating an entire packet?”
“Cute and taste great.”
“Danger Zone. I could eat this whole bag. I bet they would be great after some time in the freezer, too!”
“I DIDN’T THINK THIN MINTS COULD BE IMPROVED ON BUT I WAS WRONG. THESE ARE AMAZING.”
“This is like an acceptable-to-eat-all-year-round xmas cookie.
“Tastes like those old-school chocolate wafer cookies. Would be good crumbled with strawberries and whipped cream.”
“I’ve never loved the cream filling best, so this ratio is perfect.”
4. Double Stuf
“Childhood fave still holds up.”
“The cream to cookie ratio is most optimized for falling apart gracefully when dipped in a glass of cold milk.”
“Can’t stop eating these.”
“I’d love a bag of these with popcorn at the movies.”
“The chocolate is solid and the cookie to chocolate ratio is on point.”
2. Cinnamon Bun Creme – THE RUNNER UP
“Doesn’t taste like an Oreo but I like it! Love the cinnamon.”
“Messes with your mind because it tastes like a Teddy Graham smothered in frosting.”
1. Original – THE WINNER
“What is there to say? They’re perfect.”
“Perfection. Don’t mess with the classic.”
“For when you’re just looking for a comfort food.”
