According to Trulia's Design Panel, there are six home trends you'll be seeing a lot less of in 2018, including a kitchen mainstay that's been en vogue for years.
Kitchen Trend 2018 Granite

If you'd have asked a stranger 10 years ago what they envisioned in their dream kitchen, there's a very good chance the quick answer would have been "granite countertops."

But according to a new report from the Trulia Design Panel, that's not the case anymore.

"Granite is durable, I will give it that, but it lacks the beauty of marble or the sleekness of quartz," said Hannah Crowell of Crowell & Co.

As the popularity of granite countertops has steadily declined over the past several years, according to surveys by the National Kitchen & Bath Association, requests for quartz have risen, and its now leading the pack as the most attractive countertop material for home buyers.

Aside from quartz's aesthetic appeal, homeowners love it for its durability and versatility. As opposed to granite (a natural stone), quartz is man-made, stain- and scratch-resistant, and requires no maintenance. Because of its engineered makeup, it's also available in a range of hues and finishes.

In addition to the ousting of granite, Trulia's panel shared other trends that are on their way out, including exposed lighting (go with recessed instead), bamboo flooring, and reclaimed wood surfaces.

Now, who's ready to renovate?
