“Best burger in Tennessee.”

Josh Lovelace

Three of the four members of the Southern rock band NEEDTOBREATHE hail from South Carolina. That elusive fourth member, Josh Lovelace, hails from Knoxville, Tennessee. And while he relates with his bandmates on most levels and they do share a general Southern heritage, his preferences are slightly different due to his Tennessee upbringing. For example, when Southern Living caught up with the guys on a recent tour stop, we asked biscuits or cornbread? Bear and Bo Rinehart as well as Seth Bolt shouted “cornbread!” And Lovelace quietly dissented “biscuits all the way.”

“I’m the lone outsider from Tennessee,” Lovelace quipped.

When not on the road with the band, Lovelace still calls Knoxville home.

“Knoxville’s like a little-big city… When I say I’m from Knoxville, {people say} ‘oh you mean Nashville?’ No, I mean Knoxville. It’s because it’s right beside it. Sometimes we’re forgotten about, but I’ve always loved it,” Lovelace said proudly.

He thinks that Knoxville deserves its own respect as a great destination in the Volunteer State. “The downtown is really awesome. It’s growing. There’s a lot of good music venues that are popping up…and there’s just really good food.”

Where does the musician and father of two go for a bite when he’s home? His favorite joint in town shouldn’t be surprising to Southern Living readers—Litton’s Market, Restaurant & Bakery Litton’s has been a part of the fabric of Knoxville since 1946, and according to Lovelace, is his best hometown secret. He recommends the Litton Cheeseburger Platter. “Best burger in Tennessee,” he boasts.

If you find your way to the east side of Tennessee, say on the way to Dollywood perhaps?(It's just twenty minutes outside of town) We recommend you take Lovelace’s advice. Check out the burger at Litton’s and be sure to save room for pie!
