You, the readers, have spoken and the results are in for the South’s Best, Southern Living’s annual reader driver contest to determine the best of the best in the South.

And while L’Opossum took top honors for best restaurant, this former Queen City resident is thrilled to see that Charlotte restaurant Haberdish also made the list.

Haberdish is located in the heart of one of Charlotte’s most eclectic and fastest developing neighborhoods, NODA, or North of Davidson. The shabby chic décor is warm, welcoming and the stuff of Joanna Gaines’ dreams. But of course, the draw to this place is more about the food than the décor but for me, it is specifically about brunch.

I moved away about a year ago but I still dream of one thing—Haberdish’s Chicken Biscuit. As far as items on the breakfast sandwich, it’s pretty standard for any Southerner—fried chicken thigh, slaw, honey mustard, and bread & butter pickles—but it’s the quality of those ingredients that have made a memorable impression on my taste buds. The chicken is mouthwateringly tender, the crispy skin has just the perfect amount of crunch that fried chicken should have. That delicious chicken thigh is taken to the next level because it is hugged warmly by an exceptionally fluffy biscuit.

 

 

The trendy North Carolina eatery is also the perfect gathering spot for brunch with friends and they now have weekday brunch—which means you are no longer confined to the weekend to delight on this chicken biscuit, or the hushpuppies served warm with sweet tea butter. Grab your gals and toast to an otherwise ordinary Wednesday with their Better Breakfast Bellini. Trust me, you’re going to love it.
