"I grew up on a farm in Missouri," says singer-songwriter Sara Evans. "I'm one of seven kids. So, Missouri dirt cake is one of the desserts that we requested a lot. Easy to make, it's just a few steps, and it makes a huge batch." This simple Southern recipe is the perfect finish to a potluck. With only 6 ingredients, Missouri Dirt Cake is a favorite among kids and adults alike – and the only thing you'll need to plan for is the chill time before serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-oz.) package cream cheese, softened

  • 1 (8-oz.) carton frozen whipped topping, thawed

  • 1 (5.1-oz. box) instant vanilla pudding

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 (14.3-oz. package) chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed and divided

Directions

  1. Whisk together cream cheese and whipped topping in a large bowl.

  2. Prepare pudding using two cups of milk. Fold pudding and powdered sugar into cream cheese mixture.

  3. Press three cups of crushed cookies into a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish; set aside remaining cookies.

  4. Spoon pudding mixture over cookies. Sprinkle reserved cookies over pudding. Cover and chill until firm, about 3 hours.

  5. NOTE: We tested with Cool Whip Original Whipped Topping and Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookies.
