Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating until combined. Add vanilla extract, and beat just until blended. Combine flour and salt in a small bowl; gradually add to butter mixture, beating at low speed just until blended after each addition. Pour batter into a greased (with shortening) and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 300° for 1 hour and 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
