The holidays seamlessly bring together many joyous things: delicious homemade dishes, family all under one roof, and a sweet medley of holiday scents. A heavenly aroma of pine and cedar exude from the Christmas tree and garland, and a poignant fragrance of sugar and spice waft from the endless array of holiday treats. These glorious scents are often centralized in a specific portion of the home. If for some reason you have an artificial tree or baking is not your specialty, we've come up with the most delightful scent that will spread like wildfire throughout your home. Perfect for all of the first-time holiday hosts and hostesses, this easy, fragrant concoction will convince your guests you're whipping up something so delicious. We took a page out of Mama's hostess handbook. Her trick? Christmas Stovetop Potpourri, which, in short, is a steaming pot of all the good, sweet-smelling stuff. We gathered all of the spices from our pantry that were getting old or about to expire and dumped them in a large pot of steaming water. We included spices that greatly mark the holiday season like cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg. Then, we added a citrus twist by including lemon slices, cranberries, and orange slices. Mix those ingredients together and leave it on low heat all day long. Let's face it, when the big feast is over, the smell of roasting turkey will make your nose turn up. But this blissful signature scent will linger long after the guests are gone. If guests are still convinced you're brewing up something special in the kitchen, ease their mind and mix up warm apple cider or a hot toddy. We can't imagine a more picturesque holiday scene: everyone is gathered, the fire is roasting, and the house smells like a festive dreamland.
