Cheese Sauce


Spread a little 6-ingredient happiness, also known as cheese sauce, across your Tex-Mex casserole for an extra cheesy bite.

  • 1/4 cup (2 oz.) salted butter

  • 1/4 cup (about 1 oz.) all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1 1/2 cups (6 oz.) shredded Colby Jack cheese

  • 1 (4.5-oz.) can chopped green chiles

  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt


  1. Melt butter in heavy saucepan over medium-low; whisk in flour until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute. Increase heat to medium. Gradually whisk in milk; cook, whisking constantly, until thickened, 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and whisk in cheese, chiles, and salt. Use immediately.
