Native to tropical regions. Attractive plant that resembles a floating, grayish green, loose-leaf lettuce; each foliage rosette grows to about 4 inches high and wide. The trailing roots provide a refuge for small fish. Inconspicuous flowers. Reproduces rapidly by offsets and seeds and is now considered a serious pest in many lakes, rivers, and coastal waters of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas. Can survive temperatures as low as 15F. Be careful not to let it escape into the wild.
