Native to the South. To 6 feet tall, 1 feet wide. Tubular flowers are red outside, yellow marked with red inside. Erect, unbranched stems are clothed in nely divided dark green leaves. Startling in appearance, best massed; individual plants are narrow. Sow seed in spring or early summer for bloom the following summer. Difficult to transplant once established. Adapts to almost any well-drained soil. Attracts hummingbirds.
