Pacific Island native. Delicate, open growth to 34 feet tall and wide, with gracefully arching branches in zigzag pattern. Thin, roundish leaves are rich green variegated with white; they are held nearly opposite each other along the branches. Flowers insignificant. Can naturalize in humid tropical or subtropical regions. Selection 'Roseo Picta', sweet pea bush or calico plant, has leaves that are mottled red, pink, white, and green. Colorful plant, though prone to mites in dry indoor air.
