Plant Details

Native to Mediterranean region. Delicate, graceful ornamental grass; attractive in fresh or dried arrangements. Grows 12 feet high. Leaves are 14 inches wide, to 6 inches long. Clusters of nodding, inches-long, seed-bearing spikelets (like rattlesnake rattles) can reach 4 inches long. These papery, straw-colored clusters dangle on threadlike stems. Scatter seed where plants are to grow; thin seedlings to 1 feet apart. B. media is similar but perennial; grows 3 feet tall.
