Native to Europe and Mediterranean region. The original English daisies are the kind you sometimes see growing in lawns in winter. Plump, fully double ones sold in garden centers are horticultural selections. Dark green leaves 12 inches long form rosettes to 8 inches wide. Pink, rose, red, or white double flowers bloom on 3- to 6 inches stems in spring and early summer. Deadheading prolongs bloom period. Edging or bedding plant; effective with bulbs. In the South, usually a cool-weather annual planted in fall, then allowed to overwinter; blooms in winter or spring.
