Climbing plant reaches to 10 feet., blanketed with bright yellow, inch-long flowers starting in late spring or early summer, then continuing all summer. Yellowish green leaves to 1 feet long are divided into ovate to lance-shaped leaflets; terminal leaflet reaches out like a tendril. Vigorous, rapid grower but not invasive. Can be grown as an annual. Needs more sun than other bleeding hearts, but it should be protected from hot afternoon sun. 'Athens Yellow' is a selection of the Himalayan species with deeper yellow blooms. Formerly known as Dicentra scandens.
