Semitrailing and semishrubby perennial from Japan; to 1 feet tall, 3 feet wide. Stems densely clad in lobed, dark green leaves with woolly white undersides that show at leaf edges. Broad clusters of yellow, 34 inches flowers appear in fall; lacking rays, they resemble brass buttons. 'Pink Ice' is pale pink with short rays.
Use as bank or ground cover or at front of perennial border. Needs well-drained soil. In Lower and Coastal South, you may cut back after bloom to keep compact form; in Upper and Middle South, wait until strong new growth appears in spring, then cut back partway.
