Willlie Nelson's latest album, Last Man Standing, drops this Friday. With the release of his seventy-third (!) studio album and his 85th birthday approaching, it seemed like a fitting time to reflect on his life so far and his accomplishments.

Catching up with Texas Monthly for their May issue, the country legend opened up about why he still tours and creates records after all these years. “I think I need to keep being creative, not to prove anything but because it makes me happy just to do it,” Nelson offers, with the writer Michael Hall noting that "[he] partially credits doing what he loves for keeping him animated into his eighties. “I think trying to be creative, keeping busy, has a lot to do with keeping you alive," Nelson adds. So there you have it: Doing what you love and what makes you happy helps keep the engine ticking. Who woulda thought?

Happy birthday, Mr. Willie Nelson! We're wishing you many happy and healthy returns, or rather, to lift a line from your 1980 single, we're wishing you many more years of being, "[on] the road again / I just can't wait to get on the road again / The life I love is makin' music with my friends / And I can't wait to get on the road again"
