It's hard to measure an abstract concept like patriotism, but this year, personal finance site, WalletHub, attempted just that.

Evaluating military engagement and civic engagement data in a variety of realms (average military enlistees per 1,000 civilian adults between 2012 and 2017 without any prior service; veterans per 1,000 civilian adults, and share of adults who voted in the 2016 presidential election, to name a few factors that were considered), WalletHub analysts ranked each state from most patriotic to least patriotic.

The most patriotic state in the union? WalletHub gave that accolade to New Hampshire, with two Southern states included in the top 10 — South Carolina in eighth, and Missouri in ninth.

In reviewing the highest average number of military enlistees, Southern states dominated the top 5 with four out of the five states being in the South. Georgia came in first place, Alaska in second, South Carolina in third, Texas in fourth, and Alabama in fifth. You can read the full article and see the complete rankings on WalletHub.com here.
