Waco Named the #2 'Destination on the Rise' for 2018, According to TripAdvisor
Thanks, Chip and Jo!
America can't get enough of Chip and Joanna Gaines. So much so, that Waco has been named the #2 Destination on the rise in the U.S. for 2018 by TripAdvisor. To determine the annual Travelers' Choice accolades, TripAdvisor looked at "year-over-year increase in positive TripAdvisor traveler review ratings for accommodations, restaurants and attractions, and increase in search and booking interest from October 2016 to October 2017." The data team also evaluated average hotel prices and lowest flight prices from popular hubs around the country.
As TripAdvisor bills the flourishing Texas city, "...Waco is home to major attractions such as the Dr. Pepper Museum, which pays homage to the locally invented soft drink, as well as the Waco Mammoth National Monument, a fossil site that is home to the bones of Columbian mammoths. Travelers can also explore the Brazos River, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum and may even catch a glimpse of local home remodeling stars Chip and Joanna Gaines around town!" During your visit, Fixer Upper fans will also definitely want to visit Chip and Jo's restaurant Magnolia Table and spend some time shopping at Magnolia Market (Christmas at the Silos, anyone?).
Of course, the data can't reveal what percentage of visitors head to Waco because of Chip and Jo, but it's safe to say that the success of their HGTV show and Magnolia empire surely has played a pivotal role in the city's booming tourism. Beyond Waco, other Southern cities to make the top 10 cut for 2018 "destinations on the rise" are Wilmington, Richmond, Greenville, and Lexington.
