The Country's First Tiny Home "Agrihood" Opens in Austin

Say hello to the very first Agrihood in Austin, Texas.

Village Farm Tiny Home Community is a residential neighborhood built around Green Gate Farms, a certified organic community farm founded in 2006. This partnership brings farmers Skip and Erin Connett onsite to live within the tiny home community while providing a farm stand, hen house for fresh pasture raised eggs, and a greenhouse to a growing community that integrates agriculture into daily life.

At Austin's new Village Farm, residents can help work on the community's shared farm, buy local, organic produce for a reduced price, and participate in organized events and activities.

A representative for Roberts Communities, the developer behind the community, told KVUE that it's the first agrihood in Central Texas and the first tiny home agrihood in the country.

"It's not the kind of place where you go home, put the garage door down and don't talk to anyone," Rebecca Powers, the customer care manager of Village Farm, told the station. "It's truly a place where you know everyone on a first-name basis and that makes it really special and unique."

Village Farm offers over 10 different tiny home models with full customizations as well as community pools, playground, dog parks, grills, BBQ Pits, pavilion, community gardens, composting, farmhouse, and community center.

Saturday, June 27, was the first soft opening for the 20 tiny homes nearest the farm. When the community opens in full capacity it will feature 112 sites geared toward all age groups. Homes will average 399 square-feet with prices beginning at $69,995.
