The holiday season sees a dizzying array of deals, from flash sales to designated full-day bonanzas like Cyber Monday. But if you're looking to buy discounted airfare, mark your calendar for Tuesday, November 27th.

Travel booking giant Hopper released a new report this year revealing that Travel Deal Tuesday on November 27th is the best day to buy flights if you're looking to save big, with discounts on some flights projected to be up to 40% off the regular prices. To determine the best day to shop for flights, the Hopper research team "analyzed historical flight pricing data and found that fare sale activity significantly spikes on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving." That same company blog post also cites the fact that Hopper collects 10 to 15 billion airfare price quotes daily, predicting future flight prices with 95% accuracy, so their forecasting is certainly quite reliable. So stellar are the Travel Deal Tuesday deals that last year the company sent more deal notifications on the "holiday" than Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.

What accounts for the steep airfare discounts? As Hopper puts it, "[the] airlines offer major discounts because travel demand tends to die down following Thanksgiving. Most travelers have already booked their holiday airfare, but haven't started planning their winter getaways yet."

When you're booking your flights this holiday season, consider using the Hopper app — availalbe for both iOs and also Android devices — which features a deal finder section for Travel Deal Tuesday that allows you to browse all of the flight deals and even create alerts for areas of interest so you can know as soon as prices drop.

This season, the predicted fare sale destinations in the South include Houston, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, New Orleans, Tampa, Fort Myers, Austin, Atlanta, and Washington D.C.. For a full list of flight sale destination predictions and projected airfare prices, click here.
