Justice for Allie and Noah!

No matter how many times you've seen it, fans of The Notebook *ahem, guilty* know that full box of tissues is required for the ending. And, call us crazy y'all, but that's exactly what we love about the movie adaption of the Nicholas Sparks classic: the opportunity to bawl like a baby as we watch Allie and Noah's incomparable love story reach its heart-breaking conclusion. (Well, that and the incredible shots of Charleston.) But seriously, going to town on a tissue during the final scene is pretty much a rite of passage.

So, you can imagine the horror that befell Netflix users in the U.K. this week when they realized that the version of the movie featured on the streaming service included an alternate ending.

We know, it's almost too unthinkable to type.

Warning: spoiler alerts ahead.

In the original film, Allie and Noah die holding hands together in a nursing home bed. In the Netflix U.K. version, however, that scene is missing. Instead, the ending skips the dramatic discovery of the bodies and cuts away to the shot of the birds flying over a lake. Honestly, the nerve!

On Wednesday morning, Netflix addressed the situation on Twitter, explaining that they had been supplied a version of the movie with an alternate ending, and promised that they were "getting to the bottom of it asap."

The Notebook is set to debut on Netflix in the U.S. on March 1st. You better believe we're crossing our fingers we get the right one!
