Texas Bride Receives Life-Saving Kidney Transplant Six Days Before Wedding
One week before she was set to walk down the aisle, 28-year-old Anu Philip got a phone call that would change her life forever.
Philip, of Heartland, Texas, was diagnosed with kidney disease when she was just 9 months old. "As years went by, my kidneys just got worse," Phillip told CW33. "50%, 25%, then in 2011, 0%."
In 2011, while she was studying at Criswell College in Dallas, her kidney failed. In 2012 she was placed on a transplant waiting list. And for five years she waited.
While the days and years ticked by, Philip met and fell in love with a man named Jeswin James. In May of 2016 James proposed, and the couple set their wedding date for March 25, 2017.
Then, on March 18, 2017, a week before their "I do's." Philip got a call from Medical City Dallas—they had a match! After a few quick prayers the couple decided to risk the wedding and go ahead with the transplant. They knew it was an opportunity she couldn't pass up.

The next day Philip went into surgery. Five long days later—and with just 24 hours to go before the wedding—she was discharged from the hospital.
Miraculously, Philip and James were married, exactly as planned, with 400 of their family and friends in attendance.
"Everything was planned and we did not expect a kidney at all," Philip told ABC News. "It gave me more life to actually enjoy. Now I can travel, have children, and that was actually my main concern. I'm happy that my husband doesn't have to experience daily struggles that I was going through in taking care of me."
