The inspiration behind the latest color trend is anything but new. Terra-cotta, the burnt orange shade that gets its name from the fired clay earthenware of the same name, has been around for thousands of years—long before it was trending on Pinterest.

Today, the warm, decidedly exotic hue popular throughout the 70s is popping up again, and according to experts, its reach has extended far beyond floor tiles, shag carpets and outdoor planters. It's coming for your closets, your walls and even your makeup.

"Terra-cotta is taking over this season with its rich, earthy red and brown tones that are easy to incorporate into wardrobes, makeup boxes and interior features," a Pinterest representative told House Beautiful. "Think toasted shades like cinnamon, rust, ochre, pale pink, and burgundy, Pinterest users are looking for more ways to incorporate terra-cotta into their lives."

And that's no exaggeration. Pinterest went on to share that in the UK alone, saves for terra-cotta have increased by 95% in just the past six months.

Looks like terra-cotta it is, y'all!
