You've Got to See This Shipping Container Hotel in Round Top, Texas
Last week, Texas dazzled us with news of a new treehouse resort in Hill Country. Now, our jaws our dropping over another unique Texas retreat for visitors: A shipping container hotel. Flophouze Hotel, which was completed in fall 2017, is comprised of six renovated shipping containers with interiors crafted with reclaimed lumber from a Kentucky distillery and wood from the company's farm in New York. The eclectic decor includes pieces owner Matt White found during his travels and counter tops are sourced from an old Texas bowling alley.
Instead of TVs, each "houze" features a record player, a curated collection of vinyls, and plenty of books. The property also features fire pits, hammocks, an outdoor kitchen area, a pool — also made from a shipping container — and an on-site store and showroom, Recycling the Past, filled with funky artifacts and home furnishings. About an hour-and-a-half from Austin, if you're already antsing to plan your getaway, scroll down to tour the one-of-a-kind hotel.
