Sherwin-Williams Reveals 2019 Color of the Year
The hue is a mix of retro and modern.
For over 150 years, we've trusted Sherwin-Williams to find the perfect shade to hug the walls of our homes. So when they announce the paint color of the year, we pay attention. This is the ninth year that the iconic brand has made an official selection for color of the year. In contrast with last year's winner, the cool shade of Oceanside SW6496, Sherwin-Williams has announced that the 2019 Color of the Year is Cavern Clay SW 7701.
This warm terracotta hue is a refreshing new take to the midcentury modern rust shades of the 1970s. Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams said in a statement, "Our 2019 Color of the Year, Cavern Clay, embodies renewal, simplicity, and a free-spirited, bohemian flair."
This versatile color can be both casual and formal. This spicy color could make a bold statement for a formal dining room. It can be the accent color in a vibrant kitchen with stone and metal features. Or it could pair well with warm denim chairs for a cozy sitting room.
"Cavern Clay is an easy way to bring the warmth of the outdoors in. Envision beaches, canyons, and deserts, and sun-washed late summer afternoons—all of this embodied in one color," Wadden said.
With the accolade of color of the year, Cavern Clay is sure to be a popular choice next year. But, as it happens, we here at Southern Living appear to have been ahead of the curve.
This year's Southern Living Idea House we took on a home makeover in Austin, Texas. Designer Meredith Ellis took the reigns in developing the creative vision for this beautiful home. And when she was designing the guest room, what paint color did she choose? Well of course it was Cavern Clay SW 7701!
If you have a room to decorate or re-decorate, why not try out this bold trendsetter?
