Sam's Club Launches Hero Shopping Hours for First Responders and Healthcare Workers
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, we all have a deeper appreciation for first responders and healthcare workers on the front lines of this terrifying crisis. Across the country, so many everyday people have expressed their gratitude for these professionals, from sewing masks for first responders and hospital employees to delivering them free meals.
Now, one of the country's largest bulk retailers is going above and beyond to help these incredible men and women out. In a corporate blog post earlier this week, Sam's Club announced they will be introducing chain-wide"hero hours" every Sunday from 8 a.m.–10 a.m.
Currently, Sam’s Club Associate Appreciation Shopping Hours take place every Sunday during these hours, and starting this Sunday, April 19, until further notice, these hours will also be made open to healthcare workers and first responders. To help keep associates, healthcare workers, and first responders protected while they shop, everyone will be provided with and highly encouraged to wear masks while shopping at the club.
So who dreamed up this thoughtful idea? "Mr. Sam once said that the best ideas come from our associates and we believe this to be true now more than ever," the company statement begins. "Previously a few of our clubs invited healthcare workers and first responders for early shopping hours with our associates. What an act of kindness and consideration for those on the front lines! It’s inspiring to watch the ways our associates serve those around them." Kindness is contagious, y'all, and during so much darkness, it's inspiring to see so many people be a source of light.
Readers, we'd love to hear from you: How is your community mobilizing to help healthcare workers and first responders during this difficult time? What are some of the most touching acts of kindness you've witnessed in your own neighborhoods?
