In a recent post titled "America's Safest Places to Live ... Where You Can Actually Afford to Buy a Home," Realtor.com shared their top 10 list of the safest affordable metropolitan areas — which encompasses the city proper and smaller towns and cities that surround the city — in America.

To find these cities, the Realtor.com data team crunched numbers from NeighborhoodScout, specifically looking at community crime data in America's 150 largest metro areas. "We eliminated those with high rates of violent or property crime, and with home prices above the (roughly) $300,000 national median," writes Lance Lambert in Realtor.com's article. To help ensure a given area is a great place to live, the team also analyzed findings from Yelp.com on a city's leisure-time options, like outdoor activities, restaurants, bookstores, and more.

While Grand Rapids, Michigan, cinched the number one spot, followed by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, several Southern cities made the top 10 cut, including Port St. Lucie, Florida in third.

With a median home list price of $285,100 and a total crime rate of 19.16%, Port St. Lucie, around 50 minutes North of Palm Beach, reveals itself as an enticing option for home buyers. Trailing closely behind in fourth place is El Paso, Texas, boasting a median home list price of $175,800 and a total crime rate of 20.48%. Rounding out the top 10, Fayetteville, Arkansas, ranks in seventh place with a median home list price of $272,600 and a total crime rate of 23.21%.

Duly noted for when we're plotting our next move and for all of our new home-seeking friends.
