The boys of Rascal Flatts knew better than to arrive empty handed to their live interview with Today co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. After a brilliant, albeit damp, performance on the plaza Monday morning, the Grammy winning country group sat down with the ladies for a quick conversation.

After congratulating them for their recent honor (the most awarded country group of the past decade) and delving into their origin story (they’ve been together for 17 years) Kotb couldn’t help but inquire about the miniature guitar singer Gary LeVox was holding beneath his right arm.

“You like playing this little guy right here?” Kotb asked, pointing at the wooden instrument.

“You know what? It’s actually not even for us. It is for your daughter.” LeVox replied as he turned the guitar around to reveal the name of her infant daughter, Haley Joy, etched in the wood.

“And we signed it to Miss Haley Joy,” LeVox said as he handed it to Kotb who was already crying. “So that is for you, mama.”

“You know the way to her heart, music and her daughter,” Gifford commented as a tearful Kotb took it in her hands.

“Oh my god, thank you,” Kotb choked out as she got up to hug the trio.
