Well of course. We knew that already!

If you are lucky enough to live in one of the Southern states that hosts Florida based supermarket, Publix, then you probably already know. Publix sub sandwiches are a cut above the rest. But now, the Southern lunch staple is getting its proper due.

The pop culture and entertainment website Thrillist has bestowed top honors to Publix and crowned them “Best Sandwich.”

If you are not from a state where Publix is available, and buying a sub sandwich from a grocery store sounds odd, just trust us. This prize is right on the money. And that’s part of the appeal to the “Pub Sub.” You aren’t going to have to fork over a ton of cash for lunch. Most stores have a deal where a 6-inch sub, chips and a drink will cost fewer than ten bucks.

What makes a Pub Sub the best around? Well for starters, the bread is baked in house. We can all agree, hot out of the oven, freshly baked bread is as good as it gets. Next, you have the choice of the Publix brand of deli meat or for just a smidge extra in price you can opt for cuts from Boar’s Head. The vegetables with which to top your sandwich are all from the produce department—which is usually right next to the deli counter, and chopped fresh daily. The friendly staff behind the deli counter will also gladly customize your sandwich in just about any way you wish. Warm with a heap of ooey-gooey melted cheddar cheese atop your turkey and tomato? Sure thing. The cold or hot option is yours for the choosing. Publix’s Director of Media and Community Relations told Thrillist that the most popular menu item is the Chicken Tender Sub. If you’ve ever had Publix’s fried chicken, then you know this is a treat you won’t find at other sandwich shops.

So go ahead, grab your groceries and your lunch at the same time!
