Earlier this month, four-year-old Princess Charlotte delighted fans by sticking her tongue out during a surprise appearance alongside her parents at the King’s Cup Regatta.

After the charity race, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were escorting their young children down a set of stairs when they passed by a wall of windows. Hilarity ensued when Kate pointed at the crowd of royal watchers gathered below, inspiring the always-sassy Charlotte to immediately stick out her tongue. So much for a royal wave!

Though the cheeky move was originally chalked up to childish antics, Hello! reports that there was, in fact, an intended target for the royal appendage. Apparently, Charlotte stuck her tongue out because Kate was actually pointing to her father Michael Middleton (Charlotte’s grandfather) down below.

And it’s not the first time Charlotte has revealed her tongue in public. She also famously did the same at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.
