The Royal Mint Is Releasing a Commemorative Coin for Prince George’s 5th Birthday
And they’ll be available stateside!
What do you get the little boy who has everything? Well, if that boy is Prince George, the only thing that will do is a brand new commemorative coin.
In honor of the adorable royal's upcoming fifth birthday on July 22, The Royal Mint has unveiled a limited-edition £5 silver proof coin featuring a stunning interpretation of the youngster’s namesake, St. George, slaying a mythical dragon. St. George, was a knight and the patron saint of England, who according to legend, tamed and killed a murderous dragon.
“Referencing both fairy tale and family heritage, the coin captures a moment in the prince’s life where childhood and growth towards his royal destiny are combined,” The Royal Mint wrote in a blog post announcing the new coin.
According to The Royal Mint, Prince George was the first royal to have a United Kingdom coin struck to mark his first birthday, and four coins have already been created to commemorate key moments in his young life.
