Hurricanes are powerful storms that can put your home and family in danger in a matter of minutes. Several hurricanes have devastated the South, including Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and Hurricane Harvey in Houston. If you know a hurricane is coming your way, there are some important steps that you can take to keep yourself, your family, and your belongings safe. To start, fill up your car and a few extra gas cans if they're available. Gas is always hard to find in a disaster. You'll also want to do your grocery shopping sooner rather than later, and stock up a week's supply of essentials like medicine or baby food. Need a place to keep things dry? Your dishwasher is a smart choice for storing valuables in case you can't take them with you. And, one of our biggest tips? Listen to the folks in charge. If they recommend that you evacuate from the area, take these warnings seriously before trying to hunker down and ride out the storm. Safety comes first!
