Jenna Bush Hager Named Her Daughter Poppy After George H.W. Bush's Childhood Nickname
It's been an exciting month in the household of Jenna Bush Hager and Henry Hager. On August 2, they celebrated baby Hal's first birthday with his grandparents George and Laura Bush joining their daughter Jenna Bush Hager's family to celebrate. Then, on August 13, the couple's daughter Poppy turned five-years-old.
"Happiest Birthday to our darling Pops! You light up our lives. Like your namesake your kindness amazes and you make us laugh like no one else. How wonderful life is since you’re in our world! Five years of pops!" Bush Hager wrote on Instagram, reminding us of that Poppy's moniker is, in fact, a tribute to the late George H.W. Bush. Check out all the beautiful photos of Poppy over the years below.
Fans loved the heartfelt post and series of photos capturing Poppy's warm and bubbly personality. "Oh Pops we love you so," wrote fellow TODAY show anchor, Savannah Guthrie. "With love to Poppy on your birthday from Grammee and Jefe!" the former First Lady Laura Bush chimed in. One fan even took to pointing out Poppy's resemblance to her grandfather and the former President, saying, "Happy Birthday Poppy! I’m always amazed at how much she looks like her grandfather!"
So what's the link between Poppy's name and her great grandfather and the former President, George H.W. Bush? As the team over at Prevention pointed out, Bush Hager has previously explained the story behind Poppy's name: "Welcome to the WORLD Poppy Louise Hager--named after my darling Gamps who went by Poppy during his childhood. We are in LOVE," Bush Hager captioned an Instagram post announcing Poppy's birth in 2015. What a sweet gesture—and if we do say so ourselves—an absolutely beautiful name. (If you're curious, Poppy's middle name of Louise is in honor of the middle names of Jenna and Henry's two grandmothers, Louise and Lewis.)
We hope the Bush Hager family had a great time celebrating Poppy's birthday. We're definitely adding "Poppy" to our list of favorite baby names.
