Now’s your chance to own a piece of Southern literary history! That’s right y’all: the former home of author Pat Conroy recently hit the market, and it can be yours for $475,000.
The lowcountry residence is situated on Blue Heron Lake in the heart of South Carolina’s sleepy Fripp Island. A two-story ranch-style house, the 2,360-square-foot residence was built in 1980, and boasts a modest three beds and three baths.
Conroy, of The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini fame, lived in the home with his wife until his death in 2016. Although many of the furnishings have been relocated to the Pat Conroy Literary Center in nearby Beaufort, his family's very large antique dining room table and his six-passenger South Carolina Gamecocks golf cart will be sold with the home.
"I love the marsh," he told Southern Living in 2004. "I don't know of any place that smells like this. It's a magnificent smell. It's the smell of where all life comes from. I love that all shrimp, all crab, all oysters are born in the marsh."
