3 Years Later, Minnesota Woman Finds Missing Dog on Beer Can from Florida Brewery
When they released a special pack of beers featuring adoptable dogs from a local animal shelter last month, Motorworks Brewing in Bradenton, Florida, hoped to help four shelter pups find their forever homes. They never expected to reunite one of the dogs with her long-lost family in Wisconsin.
According to KSTP, Monica Mathis was living in Iowa in 2017 when her beloved terrier mix, Hazel, went missing. She searched everywhere, but months turned into years and Hazel remained nowhere to be found.
Eventually, a new job brought Mathis and her family to Minnesota. Then, on January 24th, she happened to come across a social media post about Motorworks’ adoptable-dog beer cans.
One of the dogs, Day Day, caught her eye.
"'Oh my gosh that looks like my dog, I think that's my dog,'" Mathis recalled thinking.
"I have no idea how she got to Florida," she added.
Mathis told KSTP that she contacted Shelter Manatee, which needed proof Day Day was actually Hazel.
"I sent everything I could find—all the pictures so I could stop an adoption process from happening because I could've lost her again," Mathis said.
The shelter confirmed the dog on the can was in fact Hazel.
"I was amazed, I was crying,” Mathis said. “An emotional wreck.”

If all goes according to plan, Hazel and her family will be reunited this week: in time to celebrate the lucky pup’s 7th birthday. The nonprofit Friends of Manatee County Animal Services is covering the transportation costs from Florida to Minnesota.
How incredible is that?
