"It's crazy, and people live for it.”

Seeing how he lives now—with a family who loves him, a full doggie wardrobe, an enviable taco diet, and a quarter-of-a-million Instagram followers—it’s hard to believe that just three years ago Lucky nearly died escaping a life of abuse.

Trapped in an abandoned home in Missouri, Great Plains SPCA reports that Lucky and another dog ate through doors to try to find a way out.  Eventually, they broke through a glass window and ran onto a property where they were shot.

A long, painful recovery eventually led the pit bull to the Rudman family home in Lee’s Summit.

"I just, I just want to make his life so much better than what it was before," adopter Gina Rudman told WDAF-TV at Lucky’s fifth birthday party on Tuesday. "I think we're doing that. I think he's a pretty happy guy."

Since starting his new life, it’s safe to say that Lucky has become an Internet sensation. The chunky pup’s more than 25,000 Instagram followers are particularly enamored with his viral taco Tuesday videos.

"It's crazy, and people live for it," Rudman said. "They love watching him eat his tacos, and he loves to crunch the shells. Crunch, crunch, crunch. It's pretty funny."

For his birthday this week, Lucky’s owners planned a party for his whole family plus 15 of his fury brothers and sisters. The main event? A taco truck!

Rudman told WDAF-TV that Lucky is simply enjoying life one taco at a time. But his family hopes that his Instagram account brings people joy, and maybe, just maybe, inspires others to adopt a rescue pup.

"I never thought that he would be as popular as he is and that people could love him like I love him, and they do," Rudman said. "It's been amazing this whole journey. I just wanted to take cute pictures of my dog, and it's turned into so much more."
